As a Korean entertainment based club, UBC K-Wave is very excited for OnlyOneOf's arrival and we can't wait to see you on April 17th at the Vogue Theatre. To share our happiness, we decided to do a deep dive into one of their most popular songs from 3 years ago - LibidO. Scroll down to read the music video breakdown written by one of our beloved K-Wave executive!

Depicting the intimacy of youth, "libidO" has earned its place among the most successful storytelling attempts I've ever encountered! Fellow execs on the team have recommended OnlyOneOf for a fresh perspective on boy groups, and their song, "libidO," has unquestionably delivered on that front!

After being a K-Pop fan for over a decade, the formula for typical boy groups became increasingly obvious, and OnlyOneOf challenges every stereotype associated with it. The lyrics of this song discuss how the more you suppress your desires, the stronger they will come out in the future. Through the lens of theories from the Austrian psychiatrist Sigmund Freud, the entire music video feels like a queer coming-of-age movie, and it starts with the boys’ individual shots, then coming together in duos in a true Ghibli movie fashion.

Each scene feels intimate and vulnerable, focusing on details like fleeting gazes, gentle touches, and vulnerable moments. Taking a bath or a shower is considered to be the time when a person is the most vulnerable, so when a second person came into the bathroom scene, it pulled some heartstrings to see that the boy was not alone. The light pulling and pushing was also incorporated into the music video – one of the boys left after a moment with the partner, and in the living room with another person present, all they could do was look at each other and reminisce about the time in the park.

Another incredibly smart aspect of the video is also how they separated their performance from the story – dance parts have a black-and-white filter and show the sharp choreography quite clearly, whereas the rest of the video is filmed with a nostalgic filter, and movements are very limited.

Overall, the group has done an incredible job with the delivery of their concept, and the release of this truly sets the scene for the future of the group’s musical direction, as seen even from their latest release, 'dOpamine'. OnlyOneOf's breakthrough landed them more opportunities, including the BL drama they released last year, and honestly, the group's small steps are loud voices in making the queer community feel seen and heard!

Dopamine Boost: OnlyOneOf in Vancouver!

What! A! Show!

OnlyOneOf kicks off the North American leg of their Things I Can’t Say Love Tour right here in Vancouver at the Vogue Theatre on the night of April 18th! I will let Habin’s (K-Wave's photographer) pictures and our Min’s (K-Wave's videographer) reel speak for themselves, but it was truly a night of great fun, one that our team will remember for a very long time!

Leading up to the concert day, one of our executives, Peggy, is actually a huge lyOn, so she gave us a 5-minute crash course on OnlyOneOf a few weeks prior, but other than their names, I knew practically nothing about them, so, I was not sure what to expect!

The show began with the boys appearing out of the dark in their beautiful black suits. They started with their newest title track, ‘dOpamine,’ delivering a powerful performance and a catchy beat right from the start! Next up was ‘dOra maar,’ and there is a part in this song where they had to kneel on the floor (and these boys are on the floor a lot). Being right in front of them, I did not expect their members to look the fans in the eye, but this group's fan service is out of this world! The third song was ‘gaslighting,’ and their iconic move for this is one where they pop their chests out. I could not keep my eyes off Junji and Mill during this song. They were definitely poppin' alright!

As with any K-Pop concert, there were bits where they needed to take a breather and have short ments here and there. During these times, the most frequent thought I had was, "Boy, these guys are beautiful!" It was not just their styling or their attractive smiles either. I think my favourite part of the show was when all six of their faces lit up the moment they saw the crowd. In contrast to such a strong performance only two minutes prior, they presented themselves as sweet, goofy boys here to make sure everyone had a good time!

One member stood out to me personally: Mill, with his sweet gummy smile that charmed me the moment I noticed, and his little gestures when his members were being chaotic. He should know that I entered the Vogue not knowing anything, but I came out of there as his fan!

Overall, the performances of the night were incredible, and you could tell that all the members had one goal – to show their fans why they came and to create a safe environment for everyone to jump, sing, dance, and enjoy! This group is truly a rare gem that the world needs more of. As our team has experienced, they add a little more magic to the cities they visit, and K-Wave cannot wait to see them in Vancouver again!

Wishing them all the best for the rest of their tour, and thank you so much to Studio PAV for the opportunity!
